Skjærgård
A water ocean planet on the periphery border between the Galactic Republic and Messier Coalition, Skjærgård is home to numerous island nations, harbor cities, and independent outposts.
During the Messier Secession War, the planet was occupied by the Republic and used as a logistics hub. To fend off local forces, the Republic assembled and deployed a technologically superior autonomous fleet. Following the Republic’s withdrawal, the autonomous fleet was abandoned and left without command. The nations of Skjærgård have since rebuilt and enjoy a thriving network of commerce, but the deteriorating autonomous fleet, operating independently and in need of parts and supplies, has again started moving.
Autonomous Fleet
The autonomous fleet is a task force of warships constructed by the Galactic Empire. The fleet was assembled with weapons systems well exceeding the capabilities of the local navies.
Each ship the fleet is commanded by an android—capable of interfacing with the ship’s systems—and can operate for prolonged periods without external intervention.
Since the withdrawal of the Galactic Empire, a lack of materials has left the fleet in disrepair. The androids have also deviated from their original programming, developing independent personalities and disrupting the chain of command.
Naming
The androids of the autonomous fleet take the names of the vessels each commands.
Technology
Composition and Formation
The autonomous fleet primarily occupies the islands of the northern seas, where its harbors and bases are located.
While the structure of the fleet varies over time, it primarily consists of three capital formations, two reserve formations, and an equal number of ships operating independently or in squadrons. In total, the fleet maintains approximately 80 vessels.
Each formation typically consists of one capital liner, an escort liner or cruiser, a specialist cruiser, two to four frigates or coverttes, and up to two submarines.
While the fleet lacks the facilities to construct new vessels, it repurposes salvage to repair and expand its forces.
Due to the Galactic Empire’s perceived technological advantage and operational costs, no aircraft carriers or air wings were built, though the fleet does maintain a small number of aerial drones.
Command
The fleet follows a hierarchical chain of command, headed by the commander of the First Formation’s capital vessel, (??).
