Futanari

In fiction, the term "futanari"—Japanese for hermaphrodite—is used to describe a variety of depictions of individuals, almost always female humans or humanoids, that exhibit features of both sexes. A common configuration is a complete female individual with the addition of either complete, partial, or representative male genitilia. While the concept is rarely seen outside of erotic fiction, the project would like to incorporate the idea in a normalized and serious manner.

Within the context of the project, "futanari" is defined as a female individual that exhibits male reproductive traits, within a kind that otherwise provides sexual physiology. Snails and Naga, for example, would not be described by the term because they are a naturally hermaphroditic kinds. The exact limitations of the term are yet to be decided, such as in the case where such individuals naturally exist within a kind also exhibiting male and female sexes.
