Magic

Kirisame’s magic system is based primarily around manipulation of the natural field referred to as Anima. The project borrows the term Alchemy to describe the formation of effects through interaction with anima.

Anima

Anima is a natural field that spans all of space and composes the material world through waves, density, and self-sustaining systems.

Aer

Aer is an unbound form of anima that is used by most magical systems. While aer is density equalizing, it also experiences attraction to regions of greater density and activity, making it most dense around planets and living systems than in the remoteness of space.

Mana

Anima that is bound to a body is referred to as mana.

Alchemic Systems

There is a wide range of natural and synthetic systems that interact with anima in a variety of manners.

Organs

Alchemic organs are natural or synthetic tissues that contain alchemically interactive components—including proteins and organelles.

Engines

Scope

General-purpose

A general-purpose alchemic processor performs alchemic procedures as described by signals or specifications. These processors may use signal processing or instruction sets—composed of smaller specialized processors—to produce alchemic effects.

Specialized

A specialized alchemic processor is designed to perform only a specific set of alchemic procedures. These are generally more effective and efficient than general-purpose processors—due to space and energy necessities—and are more common in alchemic organs.

More powerful specialized processors often take the form of spatial traces (aka. "magic circles"), which may themselves be formed through alchemic processes.

Efficiency

While anima manipulation is a more direct method of producing effects, it is generally less efficient than utilizing natural processes.

Uses

At a fundamental level, much use of alchemy stems naturally from alchemic organs used in living processes—usually in specialized organs. Broader alchemic abilities are also seen in a number of kinds and bloodlines, including Drusilla and Elves.

Within the last hundred years, geneticists have incorporated and engineered alchemic organs into other kinds, though this technology has only materialized in a few specialized functions.
